Here it is, gems! My live performance and interview on MYX-Rated!

Shout out to Joey, Olivia and the whole MYX crew!

Student Feature Story: Hopie

In my musical path, I've had the unique opportunity to meet with so many promising, talented artists, so, when I got a call from Justine Castro, a media student at Academy of Art, one of the nation's premiere art schools, I jumped at the chance to be the subject in her final project.

Here it is! Justine got an A- =)

Hopie

Once in a blue moon, you meet people who truly inspire you in ways very few people can. You soak in their every word and character because they have a way of making the people around them that much better. Hopie is one of those people.

This episode of the Unscripted Collective takes us behind the life of artist, musician, and friend Hopie. With the weight of her hometown San Francisco, Asian Americans and young women World over, Hopie has done everyone proud both with her music, education and above all, dedication.

After the release of her debut Album, The Diamond Dame, Hopie tacked on law school to her already hectic schedule. With dedication and discipline, she’s now an emcee, a law school grad and most women’s role model.

But school’s out now… and with the steady hand of a surgeon, Hopie meticulously focuses on the next challenge of her life: to make a splash in the World of music. With her talent and work ethic, she’ll be blowing it out of the water in no time. Here’s her story.

Hopie Spitshard Interview with WAFH

We recently got to chat with up and coming Bay Area emcee, Hopie Spitshard. She gives us insight on how long she’s been in the game, who she’s listening to right now and what’s coming up next for the young wordsmith.

WAFH: Which emcees have inspired or influenced you the most as an artist?

HOPIE: Of course I was heavily influenced by Lauryn Hill. She was just such a powerful female figure, and we were really lucky to have her. I also am completely enamored of Erykah Badu and her effervescent creativity. Then, of course, there is Jean Grae, MC Lyte, and Bahamadia. Missy Elliot was gigantic, too.

Summer of Hope

Our friend Hopie has been on the go for as long as we’ve known her. Shows week in and week out, late night studio sessions, video shoots/photo shoots, all the while maintaining her 9 to 5 at a law firm. Hard work pays off in the end however, and this Summer is Hope’s for the taking. With the re-release of her latest EP Dulce Vita and much more new music, videos and shows to come, you’ll be seeing her everywhere this Summer.

Ill Talk w/ Hopie

Talk a little about your Filipino roots and heritage.

My parents are both Filipino. I was born in Manila and we left to San Francisco at a very young age, so I am an interesting balance between 1st generation immigrant and 1st generation American. I speak both English and Tagalog, enjoy Filipino food, and know my American and Philippine history. I still have some very Filipino traits because I was raised in a Philippine, but I am still too American for my parents and the rest of my family, which is something unique to immigrant children. I'm very proud of my heritage.
