Hopie’s “Be A Lady” Music Video & Behind the Scenes Goodness

“Be a Lady” is a previously unreleased track off of Hopie’s album, Dulce Vita, which now includes 3 new original songs. Dulce Vita will be re-released on April 26, 2011 in digital and hard copy online and in select independent retailers.

Below are photos from our collaboration with the fierce recording artist and live performer Hopie, hair and make-up rock stars fabulously packaged as Step HEAVVY, and renown director David Dutton. This shoot goes down in our history book as the first shoot to end on time! The magic was in the all star team of experts -talk about synergy.

We provided the styling and wardrobe for Hopie’s music video. Nearly all the clothes and accessories are vintage with a few exceptions. As we did for the video, we love and encourage folks to mix vintage with contemporary pieces. This will make your outfit even more unique and lust worthy. For the video, we wanted to emphasize the song’s irony and it’s hybrid feel of old and new so we went with ultra feminine, elegant, and colorful outfits from and inspired by the 50s mixed with modern pieces and accents. This is our take on modern day “ladies” with an affinity for the retro past.

Hopie

Hopie is not your average rapper. When you see her live or in front of a camera you’ll think she’s been doing this since she was born. She is that mesmerizing and super smart. She independently released her debut album, The Diamond Dame, in July 2008, which immediately garnered national attention and a nomination for URB’s Next 1000. Then, Hopie did a 180 and took a short hiatus to earn her doctorate from U.C. Hastings, emerging to release 2 music videos & a t-shirt series with Adapt Clothing, and to perform at Paid Dues in April 2010. Now, as the ink on her law degree dries, Hopie is again returning to the music scene with an eclectic body of work, her second full-length album, Dulce Vita, which “Be A Lady” is one of the many hits from the album.

Geneive Jaramilla & Viet-Thi Ta of Step HEAVVY

Viet-Thi Ta and Genieve Jaramilla are the co-founders of Step HEAVVY. Step HEAVVY is the team you want for any of your hair and make-up needs. These ladies will not only make you picture ready for any red-carpet event, but their personalities will instantly make you wish you were their bff, and once the ladies make you over, you will no longer be left guessing how celebrities look that amazingly flawless on camera. Their magic touch is really that magical. We proudly continue to collaborate with Step HEAVVY because they are passionate about their expertise, and it shows through their professionalism and grounded swagger. We must add that Step HEAVVY blew us away with their natural and hilarious performance in front of the camera. They never seize to impress us. This is their music video premiere starring Hopie and themselves as “ladies.” We see Oscars in all their futures and we can’t wait to style them for the red carpet!

David Dutton

Speaking of Oscars, David Dutton will inevitably be a proud owner of one and we have no doubt about it. With an eclectic array of short films, music videos, and animation to his credit, David, is rapidly gaining reputation as an ingenious director with an ability to produce ambitious projects within limited budgets. David has undeniable style, skill, and vision, and has developed a unique cult-following who admire his ability to take vast visions and utilize all resources within his power to create an outstanding and unique product. David is proud to support and represent the Bay Area independent art and music presence locally and worldwide. His creative music videos are helping independent bands and artists go viral by generating massive appeal resulting in thousands of views and devoted fans on youtube, facebook, and vimeo.
